Welcome to your new home! If your lease requires that you pay for water usage, you will have to contact the water department and transfer utilities into your name within 7 days of moving in. Note: each city and utility company has a separate process to set up an account, so when in doubt, refer to the website for the water department in your city!

Detroit Water and Sewerage

In order for tenants to establish their own account, you must appear in the office with the following:

1. Rental or lease agreement
2. Valid ID
3. Social Security Card
4. Deposit of $150.00

You will complete a service application in the office and a representative will setup you account. DWSD will back bill the tenant according to their lease date if necessary.For the phone number and locations, visit the DWSD website.
